Wandering poet #6 – Back in Arizona

13 Jan

I’m back in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ for the next few months and I am trying to see through the eyes of an outsider. I haven’t really lived here  in nearly a decade, so in many ways I already am one and then it occurred to me……

rattlesnake sign

Am feeling cheated

Lived here seventeen years

Never seen a rattlesnake

As always I used wordcalc.com for this haiku and submissions can be sent to talktome@the-orange-backpack.com. Have a good weekend everybody!

This post sounds to me like overt tempting the gods of irony. Hope you have your rattlesnake bite serum handy during your time in Arizona! Have a good one.

I actually did used to have a snake bit kit with this syringe type thing that would suck out venom. It’s gotta be around here somewhere…….maybe I should go look for it lol

We were at Rawhide back in 1989. While standing around, there was a small commotion over by some hill. One of the employees said that there was a rattlesnake, so another one drew his gun and went up the hill to take care of it. I can’t remember if we heard gunshots, but that was my first – and only – AZ rattler experience.

    “Beware,” indeed!

I hate to burst your bubble but that was definitely a show they put on for tourist but I remember getting to go “panning for gold” there as a kid.
