You’ve holidayed in Spain, explored Egypt, been to Greece and enjoyed a summer in Portugal. So how about trying somewhere a little different this year? Bulgaria is one holiday hot spot that’s fast becoming a new favorite in the summer brochure, and it’s not hard to see why.

With a selection of well-equipped towns and resorts bordering the beautiful Black Sea, a holiday in Bulgaria offers plenty of beach-side fun for families, couples, singles, and just about everyone in-between. Whether you’re a curious traveler with a penchant for off-the-beaten-track discoveries, or a family with sandcastle-building youngsters, Bulgaria offers a great choice for a warm spring or a sizzling summer escape.

For culture vultures, Bulgaria offers a rich heritage with evidence of civilizations and conquests spanning centuries, although its earliest settlements can be traced back thousands of years. Hire a car and discover its ancient ruins and historic old towns, or head into the mountains for an invigorating retreat amid lush forests, flowing rivers and beautiful wildlife.

Around the Black Sea you’ll find plenty of family-friendly resorts and fantastic hotels. For non-stop fun and lively activities both day and night, try Sunny Beach – Bulgaria’s largest resort. Based in the Bourgas region, this bustling place offers plenty of classic sun, sea and sand with stacks of things to do. Try your hand at water sports, take a leisurely boat trip with the kids, or whisk the little ones off to the local water park for a day of splashing, sliding and fluming.

Quieter coastal resorts include Nessebar, a lovely laid-back place, or beautiful Obzor beach which is all about taking it easy in glorious, restful surroundings. Why not head out for the day and visit a local fishing port like St Vlas? Whatever you want from your summer escape, whether it’s full-on fun in the sun or a tranquil retreat with beautiful scenery, a holiday in Bulgaria could be right up your alley.
