Scenes from ancient Korea!

18 Jan

The Hwaesong Fortress in Suwon is one of the most famous fortresses in South Korea. It was built in the time of King Jeongjo, over 200 years ago ,and represents a sordid historical past that makes the Tudor family look like “The Muppets”. Built using the most cutting edge technology of the time, it put Suwon on the map, drawing merchants and families from around the country to live inside its walls.  In 1997 the Hwaesong Fortress was name a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2008 the construction for the Suwon Hwaesong Museum was completed. Here you can get more of a feel for what life was like back then as well as learn more about the construction of  the fortress. One of my favorite things about the museum were the miniature models of ancient Suwon and I thought it would be fun to photograph them and share it with you guys. Hope you like ; )

I highly recommend the Hwaesong Museum if you are in the area. You can go through it pretty quickly and the roof has brilliant views! Not to mention the Haenggung Palace is practically next door.

Other than the last 3 pictures (which were from the roof of the museum) everything you see can fit in your hand
